Nitro vs Nitro Basic: which one is worth it?

Discord sells two subscriptions, and the names don't make the difference obvious. Here's what each one actually includes and a simple way to choose.

What Nitro Basic includes

Nitro Basic is the lighter plan. It's about expression:

• Custom and animated emoji usable in any server
• Custom stickers anywhere
• A larger upload limit (50 MB)
• A Nitro badge on your profile

It does not include server boosts, higher-quality streaming or the bigger 500 MB upload cap.

What full Nitro includes

Full Nitro includes everything in Basic, plus:

• Two server boosts you can apply to any server
• HD streaming (up to 4K / 60 fps for Go Live)
• A 500 MB upload limit
• Longer messages, custom profile themes, animated avatars and banners, and the ability to join more servers

The difference that usually decides it

The two included boosts are the real fork in the road. If you run or care about a specific server, full Nitro means you personally contribute two boosts to it — enough to reach Level 1 on your own, and a meaningful share of Level 2 or 3 when combined with other members.

If you don't have a server you want to boost, most of what you're paying extra for is streaming quality and the upload limit. For a lot of people, Basic covers what they'll actually notice day to day: emoji and stickers everywhere.

When Basic is the better buy

• You mainly want custom emoji and stickers across servers
• You rarely stream, and 50 MB uploads are enough
• You're not trying to boost anything

When full Nitro is the better buy

• You want to boost your own or a friend's server
• You stream games or your screen in high quality
• You share large files (clips, recordings) regularly

A note on boosting a server with Nitro

Two boosts from your own Nitro get a server to Level 1. Reaching Level 2 (7 boosts) or Level 3 (14 boosts) means either a group of members all subscribing, or topping up with a boost package. Many communities do both: a couple of members on Nitro for the baseline, and a package for the rest so the level doesn't depend on any one person keeping their subscription.
