How many boosts does your Discord server need?

A practical way to pick a boost count: decide which perk you actually want, find its level, then add enough headroom that one dropped boost doesn't cost you the level.

"How many boosts do I need?" usually has a simpler answer than people expect. You don't need the maximum — you need the level that unlocks the one or two perks your community will actually use, plus a little headroom. Here's how to work it out in three steps.

Step 1: name the perk you want

Most servers are boosting for one of these:

  • Animated icon / custom invite background → Level 1 (2 boosts)
  • Server banner, 1080p streams, 50 MB uploads → Level 2 (7 boosts)
  • Vanity URL, animated banner, 100 MB uploads, 384 Kbps audio → Level 3 (14 boosts)

If you can't name the perk, you probably don't need boosts yet — and that's fine.

Step 2: decide how much headroom you want

Boosts are live counts. If a booster's Nitro lapses or they leave, the total drops, and if it crosses back under a threshold the perks switch off. So the question is: how bad is it if that happens?

  • Doesn't matter much (a hobby server that wants the banner): buy the threshold exactly.
  • Matters a lot (you've printed the vanity URL on a website, a stream overlay or a video description): add headroom. A 28-boost package holds Level 3 with 14 boosts of buffer.

Step 3: pick a plan length

DCBoosts packages run for 1 month or 3 months. A 3-month plan is the better fit when the perk is part of your identity — the vanity URL, the banner people recognise — because it keeps the level in place without a monthly renewal. A 1-month plan is for events, launches and "let's see if members care".

A few quick answers

Can I combine my members' boosts with a package? Yes. Discord only counts the total. If your members already hold 4 boosts, a 10-boost package takes you to Level 3.

Do I need Level 3 for a bigger member cap? No. Boost levels don't change how many members a server can have.

What happens when the plan ends? The boosts from the package are removed at the end of the plan, and the server's level is recalculated from whatever boosts remain. Renew before the end date if you want to keep the level.

Is there any point going past 28? Only for headroom or for very large communities that want redundancy. Level 3 is the top tier.

Putting it together

For most communities the answer is one of two packages: the 8-boost pack for a comfortable Level 2, or the 14-boost pack for Level 3. If the vanity URL is load-bearing, step up to 28. The package comparison shows every option with live prices, and the Discord Server Boosts guide covers how ordering and delivery work.
